Renee Whiteside of David Brown Gear Industries thanked the i3net. Renee said "Every i3net meeting I have attended I have gained valuable information. Through the i3net, David Brown Gear Industries has now employed a HR Trainee after hearing Dr. Mike Clements, Faculty of Commerce Internship Program which was presented at an i3net meeting. We were advised of the opportunity to apply for the Illawarra Business Awards through the i3net. We have participated and presented at the Green Jobs Illawarra Forum. Ann Hodgkinson, Project Officer presented at an i3net meeting."
Renee went on to mention "that the i3net is going from strength to strength and David Brown Gear Industries are looking forward to upcoming events in the New Year".
As members of i3net (Illawarra Innovative Industry Network) we were invited to make an application to enter the Illawarra Business Awards, hosted by the Illawarra Business Chamber for 2009.
David Brown Gear Industries subsequently applied in the following categories.
- Innovation
- Workplace Safety
- Wholesale, Manufacturing & Mining
The application process consisted of 15 written questions. As a result, we were successfully nominated as finalists for:
- Workplace Safety
- Wholesale, Manufacturing & Mining
After attending interviews for both categories, and consequently were subjected to a question and answer criteria relevant to each award.
The awards were announced at the Annual Illawarra Business Awards Gala Dinner on Friday 13th November 2009 at the WIN Entertainment Centre. Present were1050 local business representatives on behalf of the local Illawarra Business Community.
The Awards were assessed not only in recognition of the categories achievement, but also in view of the local achievement, industry excellence and contribution to the Illawarra Community.
I am pleased to announce that David Brown Gear Industries have successfully been awarded:
- Wholesale, Manufacturing & Mining Illawarra Business of the Year 2009 Award
Ian Chew received the Award on behalf of David Brown and addressed the business partners of the Illawarra acknowledging the achievement of the David Brown team and the contribution that David Brown makes to the Illawarra community.
We were also awarded a Highly Commended Award for Workplace Safety. Renee said that "receiving the Wholesale, Manufacturing & Mining Illawarra Business of the Year 2009 Award is testimony to the hard work and capabilities of our people."
